U.P. Filipiniana Dance Group Reignites Global Presence at International Folklore Festivals in Italy

The U.P. Filipiniana Dance Group, the esteemed varsity, cultural, and jazz dance group of the University of the Philippines Diliman, is set to make waves on the international stage once again. This year, the group will renew its participation in international dance festivals beyond Asia, continuing its legacy of excellence and cultural representation.

Over the years, the U.P. Filipiniana Dance Group has brought pride to the university and the country, earning numerous accolades at various national and Southeast Asian festivals. This year marks an exciting milestone as the group and the University of the Philippines have been selected as one of the nine foreign delegates to participate in the prestigious Conseil International des Organisations de Festivals de Folklore et d'Arts Traditionnels (CIOFF) Italy’s 2024 Festivals Circuit. CIOFF, a global non-governmental organization dedicated to folklore and folk arts festivals, is an official partner of UNESCO.

The Italy Festival Circuit, scheduled from July 27 to September 4, 2024, includes a series of renowned international folklore festivals:

● International Folklore Festival in Matelica

● Festival Internationale del Folklore Anacapri

● Festival “delle Torri” in Cava De’ Tirreni

● International Folklore Festival “Moles Aeterna” in Moliterno

● Estate Internazionale del Folklore in Castrovillari

● Momenti di Folklore Internazionale in Agrigento

● Romolo Folk Fest in Santa Teresa Di Riva

This opportunity is particularly significant as the group was invited to the same circuit in 2019 but could not participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The group will proudly send twenty-eight talented student performers and four professional musicians to these festivals. Beyond showcasing their artistic prowess, this participation serves as a platform to promote Philippine tourism, products, and industries by fostering connections with international counterparts and the host communities. As representatives of the Philippines’ national university, the U.P. Filipiniana Dance Group is dedicated to showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines on the world stage.
